Reflecting on Race in America - 50th Anniversary of MLK's Assassination

05

With historian Susan Strasser, we reflected on the history of racial progress and the simultaneous progression of racism. Professor Strasser, who, as a 15-year-old girl, heard King’s ”I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington, discussed what she has learned from compelling new information about slavery, lynching, and African American voting rights, during a time when newspapers and internet memes express Americans’ heightened awareness of race, police violence, and anti-racist activism.
